WhatsApp is reportedly testing a redesigned chat bar for Android that could give the messaging app a more modern appearance. The new interface was spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.26.41.11, according to WABetaInfo. The update suggests that WhatsApp is exploring changes to the messaging screen, including the placement of the text input field and send button.
The redesigned chat bar is still under development and has not yet been enabled for beta testers. WhatsApp has not confirmed when the updated interface will become available to users.
WhatsApp Tests a Redesigned Chat Bar for Android
WhatsApp regularly experiments with interface improvements and new features to enhance the messaging experience. While some changes eventually reach the stable version of the app, others remain in development.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now working on a new chat bar design for Android. This development follows earlier reports about a redesigned bottom navigation bar, indicating that the company is exploring changes to different parts of the app’s interface.
The new chat bar is expected to make the conversation screen look more streamlined while retaining the familiar messaging controls.
What Changes Could the New WhatsApp Chat Bar Bring?
One of the key changes involves the arrangement of the text input field and the send button. In the design currently under development, WhatsApp is exploring a layout in which the text input area moves to the upper part of the chat bar, above the emoji keyboard button.
The send button, which is currently positioned separately from the main input area, is expected to become part of the redesigned bar. It will retain its circular appearance while being integrated into the overall layout.
The new arrangement could give the messaging interface a more unified appearance and change how users interact with the chat bar.
Emoji, Attachment and Camera Buttons May Retain Their Positions
The reported redesign also maintains several familiar messaging controls.
The emoji, attachment and camera buttons are expected to remain on the left side of the chat bar, while the send button will occupy the right side. The emoji control is also part of the updated layout, although the final arrangement could change before the feature is released.
WhatsApp is reportedly testing two different design variations. This suggests that the company is still evaluating how the updated chat bar should look and function.
The final design may differ from the versions currently being developed.
When Will the New WhatsApp Chat Bar Be Available?
The redesigned chat bar is currently in development for WhatsApp on Android. Although the feature was identified in beta version 2.26.41.11, it has not yet been enabled for beta testers.
WhatsApp has not announced an official rollout date or confirmed which design it will choose. The company may make further adjustments before releasing the feature to a wider audience.
If testing progresses as expected, the redesigned interface could become available to selected users in a future update. However, its public release remains unconfirmed.
What Android Users Should Know
For now, Android users should continue using the existing WhatsApp chat interface. Installing the reported beta version does not necessarily provide access to the redesigned chat bar because the feature remains unavailable to testers.
Users interested in upcoming WhatsApp features can monitor future beta releases and official announcements for updates about the interface changes.
Bottom line: WhatsApp is reportedly developing a redesigned Android chat bar featuring an integrated circular send button and a revised input layout. The feature remains experimental, and its final design and release date have not been confirmed.
