The monsoon season brings a refreshing change in weather, but it also brings along seasonal health challenges such as fever, cough, infections, digestive discomfort and low energy levels. Changing temperatures, increased humidity and irregular routines can impact the body’s natural balance. To help people stay healthier during this season, Dr. Avantika Soni, Senior Consultant at Cura Ayurvedic and Unani Limited, shares a few simple Ayurvedic wellness tips to support natural immunity, improve digestion and maintain overall wellbeing during the monsoon.

1. Support your digestive health with the right foods

In monsoons, many suffer from alterations in appetite, bloating or slower digestion process. In Ayurveda, healthy digestion forms a part of being healthy.

Having fresh, warm, light food helps to make the digestion process comfortable. Foods like moong dal khichdi, soups that are warm, and steamed vegetables are good options for consumption in monsoon because they are easily digestible and provide nutrition to the body.

Consumption of spices like cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black pepper, and hing (asafoetida) is recommended for digestion as well as absorption of nutrients.

It is suggested not to drink too many chilled fluids, junk food and stale food items.

2. Include natural herbs for seasonal wellness

The monsoon is a good time to focus on strengthening daily wellness routines with natural ingredients. Herbs like Giloy, Tulsi and Amla have been traditionally used in Ayurveda as part of seasonal health practices.

Giloy (Guduchi) is traditionally valued for supporting the body’s natural defence mechanisms, while Tulsi has long been associated with respiratory wellness. Amla, naturally rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, is considered a nourishing ingredient that supports overall health.

For people with busy lifestyles, one of the easier ways to include these traditional ingredients in everyday life is through herbal wellness juices. Consuming juices made with Tulsi, Amla and Giloy can be a convenient addition to a balanced routine, helping individuals incorporate these natural ingredients without making major changes to their daily habits.

3. Stay hydrated and follow Mindful Routines

Hydration also helps in keeping up with energy, more so in the humid season. Proper water intake helps to keep oneself healthy and fit.

One can begin the day by having warm water or tea in the morning as part of their health regime. In addition to hydration, one should also eat on time and refrain from eating excessively.

Consistency in schedule is equally important during the monsoons as well. Sleeping on time and exercising as well as de-stressing through yoga or meditation also adds on to health.

4. Maintain Hygiene During The Rainy Season

Monsoons call for increased focus on personal hygiene and practices. The consumption of safe water, regular hand washing, and maintaining cleanliness around you can prevent many seasonal ailments from affecting you.

One needs to also take care by changing into dry clothes as soon as possible once they get soaked in the rains.

5. Make prevention a part of your wellness journey

Being fit is a result of certain actions done regularly. While dealing with health issues when they arise might seem like the easy way out, preventive measures could be implemented in order to keep oneself ready for the changing seasons.

Healthy eating habits, proper digestion, rest and including the use of natural products in daily activities will aid the body in surviving the monsoon.

Through Ayurveda and some lifestyle changes, one can enjoy the rainy season by remaining immune and healthy.
