National, March 6, 2026: In a celebration of globally recognized Indian storytelling, India’s leading cinema exhibitor PVR INOX Limited is bringing back the critically acclaimed Manipuri film Boong to theatres across select cities starting March 6, 2026. The film, produced by Excel Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment, and Suitable Pictures, created history by becoming the first Indian film to win a BAFTA Award in the Best Children’s and Family Film category.

Directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, the Manipuri-language film first released in Indian theatres in September 2025 through PVR INOX Limited. Following its remarkable global journey and historic recognition at the BAFTA Awards, the film is now set for a special re-release to give Indian audiences another opportunity to experience the moving story on the big screen.

A Film That Made History for Indian Cinema

Boong first captured international attention when it premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. The film subsequently travelled to several renowned international film festivals, earning widespread critical acclaim and numerous honours along the way.

Its most significant milestone came when it won at the BAFTA Awards, making history as the first Indian film to receive the award for Best Children’s and Family Film. The achievement marked a proud moment for Indian regional cinema and highlighted the growing global recognition of stories from India’s diverse cultural landscapes.

A Tender Story of Childhood and Hope

At the heart of Boong lies a deeply emotional story about childhood innocence and the longing for family. The film follows Boong, a young boy who dreams of surprising his mother with the most meaningful gift he can imagine—bringing his estranged father back home.

Driven by love and hope, Boong embarks on a journey to find his absentee father. However, his search gradually reveals complex realities and emotional challenges that reshape his understanding of family and life. What begins as an innocent quest eventually transforms into a poignant exploration of relationships, loss, and unexpected discoveries.

Through its heartfelt storytelling, Boong offers audiences a touching portrayal of a child’s emotional world, set against the unique cultural backdrop of Manipur.

Director Lakshmipriya Devi Reflects on the Film’s Journey

Speaking about the film’s re-release, director Lakshmipriya Devi described the project as deeply personal and emotionally significant.

“Boong is my bittersweet memory of Manipur. From the writing stage up until now, as we stand on the cusp of a re-release, it has been a deeply personal journey,” she said. “Winning the BAFTA was and still is surreal; even memory loss wouldn’t make me forget that moment! I am truly happy that Boong is returning to cinemas. Manipur is meant to be experienced on the big screen, and I hope people get the chance to watch it in theatres this time.”

PVR INOX Celebrates Diverse Cinematic Voices

For PVR INOX Limited, the re-release of Boong represents a continued commitment to promoting diverse and meaningful cinema.

Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX Limited, expressed pride in bringing the award-winning film back to audiences.

“It’s such a privilege to be re-releasing Boong in India, a film that has not only earned international acclaim but also created history with its BAFTA win,” she said. “We originally had a limited release of the film last September. At PVR INOX, we remain committed to championing diverse cinematic voices. Boong’s re-release is our way of giving audiences across India the opportunity to discover and celebrate this remarkable film in the immersive theatrical environment.”

Re-Release Across Select Cinemas

The film will be re-released in India by AA Films Pvt. Ltd., headed by distributor Anil Thadani. It will open in select cinemas across the country, allowing viewers to experience the award-winning film once again on the big screen.

Audiences can catch Boong in theatres starting March 6, 2026, with booking details and theatre listings expected to be announced soon through the official platforms of PVR INOX Limited, including its website, mobile app, and social media channels.

With its historic BAFTA recognition and deeply moving narrative, Boong continues to stand as a landmark achievement for Indian cinema—demonstrating the universal power of heartfelt storytelling.
