This world environment day a beautiful effort came to light. A unique campaign to collect Electronic Waste (E-Waste) was run full force by a trust called ‘Beyond the I’ that has been actively working on various other campaigns conceived and executed by it’s founder Ms Manveen Singh, to bring to light different needs of the hour when addressing environmental ssues.

This year they took it upon themselves to spread awareness and collect E-waste which after being segregated and weighed was sent off to a recycling plant for responsible repurposing and disposal.
Within just 3 weeks, the city of Hoshiarpur came together !

The total weight they managed to collect was 1.5 tonnes, that is 1500 kgs of E-waste!!

When asked to speak on why this project this year, Manveen said, “With the rising use of electronics in our everyday lives, it is imperative we inform the masses of their options and their responsibility when it comes to their disposal. This can truly help reduce waste in our landfills and stop hazardous toxic materials from leaking into our soil, running off into our streams and then evaporating into our air.”

It was surprising to discover that she has been running the trust almost single handedly, but when asked about this said, “ these goals and dreams are only possible when people come together. Despite running my trust alone, I have always seen that when it comes time to act, the world comes together, hands join in to help achieve those dreams and good true intentions always pay off. She also mentioned the support and encouragement for such campaigns of the city’s DC Mrs. Aashika Jain who is genuinely dedicated to environmental work and constantly comes to actively mobilize all altruistic efforts of people.

This ewaste drive is just one of BEYOND THE I’s campaigns, the trust is dedicated to creating change and bringing tangible ecological restoration. As the name suggests, they wish to encourage in people selfless service and to think beyond just their own needs. They’ve also run successful clean up and plantation drives, have been involved with animal rescuing and rehoming for decades and spreading awareness in today’s youth and reconnecting them to nature with the help of gardening.

Here’s to positive news on this environment day where we can focus on the good things happening around us.
